This federal and state funded demonstration project is designed to evaluate the effectiveness of a comprehensive, coordinated service program for families with prenatally drug-exposed infants. The services provided by the Infant Parenting Program (IPP) stress substance abuse issues, domestic violence, family planning, psychiatric and psychological issues, parenting skills, child development, job training/placement, education, sober support development, and life skills. The specific aims are to: a) prevent the abandonment of infants and young children by providing coordinated, culturally sensitive, and comprehensive services to families of children at risk of being abandoned, primarily those prenatally exposed to controlled substances, b) provide empirical data to support the formation of policy, in Oklahoma and nationwide, regarding how to make better-informed treatment decisions regarding these families, and c) empirically evaluate the effectiveness of individual Motivational Interviewing sessions on improving treatment retention and participation, and d) empirically evaluate the efficacy of providing concurrent treatment of trauma related symptoms and substance dependence in women involved with child welfare.. |
