Overview

The goal of the Family Centered Clinic (FCC) at the OU Child Study Center in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center is to help families understand the unique special needs of their children and to support them in advocating and obtaining appropriate services or resources for their child. The FCC provides diagnostic evaluations for children with special needs. The results of the evaluations are used to generate intervention strategies and appropriate referrals. The families are provided with a diagnostic report which includes individualized recommendations. Reports for DHS custody children are sent to their caseworkers. The FCC offers services and consultation for children ages 4 through 18+ years of age and their families. Services are provided to children with:

  • Developmental Delays
  • Behavioral Problems
  • Cognitive Concerns
  • Academic Problems
  • Speech and Language Delays
  • Jump Start Developmental Clinic
  • Parent Child Interaction Therapy
  • School Support Services.

Interdisciplinary Evaluation

Children referred to the Family Centered Clinic (FCC) are seen by an interdisciplinary team consisting of a pediatrician, psychological clinician and a speech-language pathologist. Many of the children referred to the FCC have involvement in more than one area of functioning. They may experience medical concerns, global delays in language, motor, and cognitive functioning, or significant impairment in any one or combination of these areas. In addition, children with developmental challenges are often exhibiting behavior problems due to their inability to understand, process, and comply with demands and expectations placed on them. Early diagnosis and intervention are important to help the child reach his/her potential.

Interdisciplinary Team Members

Loy Markland, MD, Pediatrician
Darleene Harris, LPC, Psychological Clinician.
Jill Olson, MS, CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist
